Say It Ain’t So: Mercedes To Kill Maybach Sub-Brand In 2013
To all of those broke rappers who claimed they owned Maybachs in their lyrics, you should go into hiding for a while because you’ve tarnished a very well respected vehicle brand. After experiencing hardships via low vehicle sales since its revival in 2002, Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will kill their Maybach brand in 2013, especially since their joint collaboration with Aston Martin went down the drain this year. Coming from my perspective, it seems as if the boys from Bentley & Rolls-Royce outshined the two Maybach models, the 57 & 62, with the Continental Flying Spur & Phantom respectively. This would make sense, because Rolls-Royce is constantly setting record sales numbers year in & year out recently, and Bentleys just make heads turn regardless.
As for what Mercedes will do to compensate for the loss of Maybach after 2013, their plan is to release a top-of-the-line S600 model called the Pullman, as the next-generation S-Class is due in 2013. It’s a sad day for the Mercedes camp, but who knows, it may be a move for the better. But, one question I do have is: What will Rick Ross do with the name of his record label(Maybach Music Group) when Maybachs become extinct in 2 years? Could you imagine “Pullman Music Group?” Yeah, me either…
