This may be a vehicle many of you may not be as familiar with, but if you’ve been watching TV lately you’ve caught a glimpse of the car I’m referring to. Scion has recently released it’s FR-S coupe(known in Europe & Japan as the Toyota GT-86) to dealerships earlier this month, and I had the opportunity of a lifetime to share my experience behind the wheel of this hot sports coupe. For starters, this Scion FR-S is the result of a joint project between Toyota & Subaru(Subaru released their version, the BRZ a few months ago) that has many auto performance enthusiasts ranting & raving.

My experience with the FR-S came in the form of an autocross-like setting that offered a lot of tight turns & quick acceleration that would produce enough g-force to make you feel as if you were riding a twisting roller coaster. With that in mind, I can share the fact that you have complete control while maneuvering  through tight turns with the vehicle’s low center of gravity accompanied by a sport-tuned suspension that keeps the wheels stuck to the ground. With the FR-S being a rear-wheel drive coupe, I was expecting the back end of the car to come beside me, but this is a car that really listens to your demands(that’s for those who wanna push the limits).

The other cool feature on the Scion FR-S is the Subaru-sourced 2.0-liter Boxer-4 engine that puts out 200 horsepower… And might I add this is one of the sexiest sounding engines I’ve heard on the opposite side of the likes of Ferrari & Maserati. For those who aren’t crafty with a stick-shift transmission, the 6-speed automatic with paddle shifting doesn’t skip a beat either, as the car is ready to let loose the moment you hit the gas.

From an appearance standpoint, some may think that the Scion FR-S is a bit of a “chick car,” but I’m here to tell you otherwise because the performance speaks for itself. The styling of the Scion FR-S is very functional, as every curve & crevice shifts the air to optimize the full potential of the car’s performance. Also, not to be left behind, is the boomin’ Pioneer audio system that will get you hyped up for a night out or to just have some fun on the streets. I highly recommend stopping your local Scion dealer to check out the FR-S in person, as you will see just how fun this little car really is…
